Sylvia Mwangi is currently the Country Manager of Generation Kenya, an education to employment program that aims to close this gap through accelerates learning and places disconnected young adults in jobs, and gives them the skills and support they need to achieve enduring personal and professional success. Generation is the first program of McKinsey Social Initiative and has active programs in more than 50 cities across 5 countries. In Kenya we have trained ~5,000 youth in entry level roles in financial services sales, retail, consumer goods and center agents. 90% of those trained have transitioned into meaningful employment.
She is also a McKinsey & Company consultant who focuses on serving clients in the public and social sector, with experience in education, agriculture and logistics, within McKinsey’s Africa Delivery Hub – a specialist unit at the firm that supports African governments and social sector institutions deliver on their commitments to their citizens. The ADH assures a long-term commitment to offer services to the public sector by implementing the delivery labs and delivery units to fast track service delivery and implementation.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Sylvia was a finance manager in a venture capital firm that invested in fast food chain stores and a frozen goods logistics company. She was in charge of the funds from the investors and developed a strategy to grow the business across East Africa. She began her career in Deloitte and KPMG as a financial auditor verifying financial statements and internal controls of companies both in the public and private sectors.
Sylvia holds an MSc in Finance from the University of Nairobi.
